Ariel Sprague, Neumann Chapter Member, Class of 2027

I joined CogWell after seeing it at the career fair on campus. I was interested in the activity they were doing, and I also wanted to be part of a club and community where I could meet new people and become more involved on campus. Since mental health and self-care are important to me, CogWell stood out because it focused on active listening and creating a supportive environment.

Throughout the semester, CogWell gave me exactly what I was looking for. We met once a week and did different activities that helped us practice active listening skills while also getting to know each other better. Some of the activities included making bracelets, drawing shapes while a partner explained what to draw, going on a flower walk in nature, sharing our highs and lows of the week, and playing getting to know each other games and activities together. We also made cards for kids on their first day of school, which made the group feel meaningful and positive.

One of my favorite parts of CogWell was that it gave me a chance to socialize with people I normally would not run into on campus. It became a space where I could relax, wind down, and take a break from the stress of school for an hour each week. I did get what I was looking for from joining because it gave me a sense of community, helped me focus on mental health, and taught me skills I can use in everyday life. Active listening is something that will benefit me in both my personal life and future career, so I am glad I joined CogWell.
